The T-shirt Evolution

With every generation movie stars who wore them. Rock stars have shredded them. And celebrities have stripped. Paris anyone? The T-shirt was more significant fashion for over 70 years and probably another 70 years. How did you here and what's next?

Origins - Call to Arms in Short Sleeves

The shirts can humble beginnings early in 1930 are plotted. WWI European soldiers entrenched in mud wore the t-shirts asa petticoat. The advantages of light cotton underwear were quickly adopted by the U.S. military. With World War II the U.S. Army and Navy had supplied the T-shirt as standard issue. With the help of a sweating Brando in the 1951 film "A Streetcar Named Desire" and later a brooding James Dean in "Rebel Without a Cause" T-shirt had moved to mainstream youthCulture. 1960 - From Beatniks to Vietnam

The 60s were known for social upheavals and political events. Many subcultures Beatniks, Mods, Rockers Hippy eventually developed. During the mid-70's surf clothing appeared. Niche surfing brands such as Lightning Bolt, Billabong, Rip Curl and Quiksilver then become big business. Athletic giants Adidas, Puma, Reebok and Nike also made a survey with their brands t-shirts, shoes andClothing. The decade was also known for his many classic 911-T shirt slogan, including the Smiley face "Sh * t Happens" and "I love NY" to see what rebirth. 1980 - Beep Beep Fashion

The influence of music had an extreme effect on fashion in the '80s. The New Romantic movement in the early 80's had passed on the simple T-shirt, which is an extravagant look. Remember, Flock of Seagulls? On the opposite spectrum the Punk movement was in full flight with black ripped T-shirt, Doc Marten boots, piercing and lots of hairGel.

Until the mid-'80s, the Japanese fashion influence had caught on. Designer Yohji Yamamoto and Issey Miyake had invented the oversized t-shirt a large cut in kimono. Katherine Hamnett has taken even more in 1984, with the notable "Choose Life" print which was immediately embraced by Wham! In his video for "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go". Not long after Frankie said "Relax" and The Smiths said "Meat is Murder" regurgitating the political t-shirt.

FromOversized T came to the "woman T-shirt" outfit that has developed in daytime and neon colors.

Springsteen has jeans and a T-shirt back to its origins with sleeves rolled up during its phase of "macho" Born in the USA. For the MTV generation, the T Armani T-shirt haute couture wear under a jacket. Of course, the jacket sleeves were up ala Crocket and Tubbs Miami Vice style (parodied exceptionally in that Friends rolledepisode).

1990's - Come As You Are

Surf tees saw a rebirth pioneered by new brands Stussy and Mossimo. Also adopted by Skaters long sleeve t-shirts became ever more popular. The Hypercolor t-shirt fad where the fabric changed colour with heat was very popular. Entertainingly if the wearer worked up a sweat big unsightly patches of colour change would occur around the armpits.

Again the influence of music came back into play. Hip Hop proved it wasn't a phase Adopted at first Adidas as a brand. Later various Rap specific brands emerged such as Sean John and Phat Farm. Dance, Trance and DJing gained exceptional prominence and are supported tighter and sleeveless T-shirt with baggy pants mode. Grunge anti-fashion, he also had tea in a different direction to be worn with a dark look.

21st Century Brand Child

According to branding experts Al and Laura Ries in the book "The Origin of Brands", as a product category, the category will then developdiverges further into different categories. Like a tree, and where some branches may die, while others continue to grow apart again. This is probably best explained with the invention of TV. The TV is equipped with the exception of a simple B & W television to many other categories. We now have CRT, Plasma, LCD, HDTV, Rear Projection, portable and widescreen.

With the advent of Internet start-ups we have witnessed a boom in smaller t-shirt label. Now there are many categories to which we are almost overwhelmed for choice. Some

Surf Brands: Billabong, Mambo, Rip Curl, Quiksilver, Rusty has the surf category Roxy girl apart.

Snowboard Brands: Burton, Salomon

Hip HopBrands Sean John, Ecko, G-Unit, Phat Farm.

American Retro Classic Brands: Dickies, Von Dutch, Harley Davidson.

Martial Arts Brands: Drunken Munky and various Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris logos.

Funny T-shirts: Vote for Pedro. Jesus is my homeboy, White Castle.

Internet Brands: T-shirt Hell, Café Press, Threadless.

Sport Brands: Puma, Nike, Adidas, Reebok.

American basic brands: Hanes, American Apparel, Fruit of the Loom and GAP.

HighFashion brand Tommy Hilfiger, Gucci, Armani, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein.

The future

So which category branches and dying, and will survive the next decade? Do you prefer to look like Eminem, Kelly Slater or Tony Hawks? And what is a t-shirt already? There is a simple design of clothing with a job in color with a silk-screen printing, hobby sports, band, or well-being that you identify yourself? Or is it a branded product, marketed and directly massproducts for your particular demographic? In both cases, T-shirts have become an industry of billions of dollars.

What are the prospects for tea time not so humble? Let the 21st century as Goretex fibers, Merino wool and Lycra blends being used. As for logos some growing trends seem to be the video game T-shirt, t-shirt and Internet poker are T-shirts. These are the next surf or skate brands? Everything possible. others grow out of our past favorite? Can a brand Sudoku, aMySpace porn brand, or mark a brand of iPod T-shirt? You can design your own the new black? One thing is for sure, history has shown us that there are a lot more diversification in the coming decades. The power of the t-shirt has never been greater. Awesome!
